Who we are and Our Mission

AN INTRODUCTION TO RANDAL MASSARO

Hello friends and fellow animal advocates, let me take this opportunity to introduce myself.

my name is Randal Massaro, I’m sure that doesn’t mean much to you now, but by the time I’m done with this introduction i hope you will have gotten to know me better and understand who i am and what i stand for.

I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, California.  My family is originally from New York.  Raised in large Italian family, I was taught about the values of life, family, friends and  respect for nature and the animals we share this planet with..

I remember going  camping,, hiking and backpacking  with my family and my friends, seeing and feeling wildlife along the way, seeing wildlife alive and in their natural environment was fascinating.  Getting close enough where you can stare into their eyes and see into their soul was a life altering experience, in a good way. I’m sure they were just as scared of me as I was of them.

Eventually the years went by and so did all those wonderful trips, the everyday hustle and bustle of life took over our time, eventually finding yourself, working 3 jobs, starting my own business, but if that wasn’t enough, my curiosity led me to the security field and eventually into law enforcement. I worked for an investigation company, trained by and worked with the feds  guarding high ranking dignitaries and politicians. With all the work, also came marriage, along with being the proud parent of 10 foster kids, as if I wasn’t busy enough.

So, let me take you back a few years , actually back to the 1970’s, when the animal rights movement was just taking hold.  I not only got involved, but became a representative for one of the most well known animal rights  organizations at that time, AN ORGANIZATION “GREENPEACE”, they were mostly know for disrupting whaling operations by placing themselves in between the whales and harpoon ships shooting  at innocent and unsuspecting whales or they were known for disrupting the Canadian baby harp seal hunt on the ice flows of Newfoundland.  Again, putting themselves between the Norwegian  and Canadian seal clubbers. Taking on the US Government nuclear testing in Kamchatka Alaska to  the South Pacific, GREENPEACE became a household name and I was proud to not only be a part of it, but also be a representative for them. They were very well known and what was even better is that all the animal rights groups were united back then and often joined forces with one and another.

As time went on, so did the many battles to save animals and the environment all over the world , and with more and more battles and fights popping up so did the number of animal rights organizations, and with that said a little known organization  popped up in Europe in 1970 originally called  ” UNION COALITION AGAINST HUNTING, TRAPPING AND POACHING”.  It gained it’s reputation by adapting some of the successful tactics as their predecessors, known as Green Peace.

Randal was forced into retirement from law enforcement  in the early 2,000’s  due to illness.

After the illness forced Randy into early retirement, he worked hard to recover his health and made his mission to protect wildlife. Randy serves as the US Representative of the Union Members for the Preservation of Wildlife which is an international organization dedicated to saving wildlife since 1970.
